Refinery Row Edmonton

Last night the IACC (Images Alberta Camera Club) was to have an outing shooting the refineries in Edmonton and Sherwood Park.  The outing had originally been scheduled for last week, but postponed due to a heavy snow fall.  Wouldn't you know it, last night we had rain.  Living in the county I'm fascinated by the lights of the city and luckily for me I have a wonderful photo buddy, who's willing to try anything.  As the club members went home we ventured out with our map in the rain.

Our first stop was at a refinery that has been shut down for a few years and it looked like someone had done a little decorating.

Because there was very little walking I was using my 70-400mm lens but the next few stops proved to be a little too windy for the lens, camera and tripod.  By the time we hit the backside of the Shell refinery the wind calmed down and we could get in a few shots before wiping the rain of the lenses.

By the time we reached the end of the map, it was getting dark and the lights of the refineries lit up but it was raining and cold and we could only get a couple of shots in before we had to go clean the lens.  With the temperature close to freezing getting in the car was a warm, welcome break.

It was raining harder and getting colder, but still time for one more shot.

Would I go out in the rain and cold again? Probably not, but I do look forward to shooting these refineries again on a warmer evening.
